2010 – 2011 Season
3rd September 2010 Information for the Opening Social Evening and rules for the special display and competition.
Friday 3rd September we will be the start of the new season and the evening will follow a similar pattern to previous years. There will be a buffet to allow members and visitors to meet and catch up with news, pay subscriptions and get into the right mood for the coming season.
There will also be a competition for prints provided by members and visitors, and as before, but this year there is a change to give you a new challenge and to get those grey cells working.
Members and visitors will be able to present one display panel each. The maximum size for the display board is to be 20" x 16". All entries must have a title displayed on the front of the board as this will be used for identification and judging purposes.
This year the display should be based on a selection of subjects from the following four categories as follows:
One portrait
One architectural image
One sports image, can be any sport
One landscape image
On display board you should mount THREE prints, of any size, not necessarily equal, with the print layout entirely to the photographer’s choice. Images must be from the above subject list, for your entry you should choose three images. Your display board will therefore have three images, which gives more choice for size variation. The images displayed must have been taken within the following area. The area is north of the Thames, including any part associated with this shore, south of the River Crouch and East of the A130. Images may be mounted directly onto the mount board, or cut in with a mount cutter. Images should not have been used in any previous club competitions.
There will be no formal entry procedure just bring your display along on the evening, they will be logged and put on display. But please note that entries will only be accepted for display, if the author is present for the evening.
As always this is intended to be a fun evening and to allow you to use your imagination freely and to be judged only by your fellow members. It will not form a part of any other club competition, and because of the chosen subjects, will not be eligible for the Presidents Panel competition at the annual exhibition.
Judging arrangements will be by members and guests voting for their favourite display. There may even be a prize or two for the winners.
Awards for All
Southend Photographic Society has been fortunate enough to win a grant under the “Awards for All England “ scheme, which is supported by the Arts Council England, the Big Lottery Fund, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sport England. The grant has enabled the Society to invest in a digital projector and supporting laptop computer, enabling us to more readily comply with the Royal Society rules for external competitions and exhibit members’ pictures better.
