COMPETITION RULES AND REGULATIONS
1998 (Revised 2009/10)
There will be five Print, three Slide, and five Digital Projected Image competitions per season, and an annual exhibition.
(i) A maximum entry of 3 Prints/Digital Images or 5 Slides per competition per member.
(ii) Marks out of ten will be awarded to each Print/Slide/Digital Image and totalled over the five Print/Digital image, or three Slide competitions to determine the winner.
(iii) See separate list for Annual Exhibition categories.
There are two classes of entrant – Preliminary or Advanced
(i) Entry to the Preliminary Class is restricted to members not having obtained a major award in previous competitions at this or any other photographic society or club.
(ii) Members may be in different classes for Prints, Slides and Digital Images.
(iii) At the Committee’s discretion members may compete in a higher class, depending on their previous competition results.
All Prints, Slides and Digital images, and elements within, must originate from photographic image(s) taken by the entrant to which they have the copyright
Entry will be by the purchase of the appropriate colour coded competition form.
The committee reserves the right to reject any Print, Slide, or Digital Image it considers not within the spirit of the competition rules.
Prints/Slides/Digital Images may be monochrome or colour.
There is no classification of subject matter.
Any one image can only be entered in one monthly competition per season, i.e. as a Print, Slide, or Digitally Projected Image.
Entries may be home or trade processed. (Darkroom or Digital)
Prints should be mounted on card which can be of any shape or colour, provided it is within the boundaries of 20” x 16” rectangle. The minimum picture size is 35 sq.in (7” x 5”). Framed prints will not be accepted.
Each print must have the entrant’s full name, an identifying title and class of entry printed on the back of the print mount.
All slides must be mounted in 2” x 2” mounts.
Slides must be spotted in the bottom left hand corner and any masking must be internal.

The Committee’s decision on ALL matters pertaining to the rules is FINAL.
Appendix -
These notes are to assist members when preparing images to be submitted for Digitally Projected Images Competitions. It is important that the image size, file property requirements and save format are followed, so that your images may be accepted and projected correctly.
Resize
Images must be resized, with the maximum height 768 pixels,and the maximum width1024 pixels, whether portrait or landscape.
File Properties
File properties should be added, as follows:
1. Navigate to the file using Windows Explorer
2. Right mouse click on the file to bring up the file menu.
3. Left mouse click on ‘Properties’.
4. Choose the ‘Summary’ Tab in Windows XP or ‘Details’ Tab in Vista.
5. In the ‘Title’ field enter your title for the image – maximum 40 characters.
6. In the ‘Subject’ field enter the date of the competition as dd-

8. Complete the entry by left click on the ‘Apply’ button, then ‘OK’.
Saving your image
Images must be SAVED AS JPEG format (.jpg) in the highest quality setting, re-

1. Copy your three or fewer images into a folder. The folder name is
unimportant, but might be Comp 2009-
2. Copy the folder to a USB memory stick or burn it to a CD. Ensure that your name is attached to the memory stick or CD so that it can be returned to you if required.
3. Hand in your entry on the memory stick or CD together with a completed entry form no later than one week before the competition.
