The Society was founded in 1900. A letter written to the "British Journal of Photography"
dated November 1900 was as follows -
To the Editor,
Yesterday evening a new Photographic Society was inaugurated,
to be called Southend-on-Sea Photographic Society. Mr. Bullivant, Principal of the
Ascham College, Westcliff-on-Sea, kindly placed a room at the disposal of the members
until more suitable accommodation could be found. As there was no organisation of
the kind in this district it should be a success signed

Welcome
Welcome to the Southend-on-Sea Photographic Society’s web site, which incorporates a selection of the members’ work. We hope that you will enjoy viewing the images.
The Society embraces all who are interested in photography, whether young or old, beginner or experienced. And we value both traditional photography and digital imaging.
The site gives details of members' events from time to time, together with the syllabus for the season .
The subscription for the 2008/09 season is £16 (or £5 if under 18).
In addition there is a charge of £1 on each meeting night (£1.50 for non-members), which includes tea or coffee
Visitors may attend two meetings before joining the Society.
If you are interested in joining the Society, or would like further information, please contact us.
